David Macaluso

Central City Opera:
David is Assistant Director of the MainStage production of "The Knock" with Alison Moritz and Alison Pogorelc.
He is also directing the Short Works Program featuring Opera and Music Theater.

H.M.S. Pinafore
David is currently directing the classic H.M.S. Pinafore with The Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera Company of Long Island. Performances will be held at various theaters late Spring, fully staged with orchestra under the baton of Maestro Michael Haigler.

The House of Murgatroyd
"The House of Murgatroyd or Ruddigore Revisited" was created and produced by David Macaluso & Caitlin Burke from the original source material of Ruddigore. This fast paced original production included new songs and previously deleted scenes. It was received with rave reviews at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Harrogate England, plans are underway for a New York City run.

Blue Umbrella Experience
In an educational format, David has created, and directed fully staged musicals with a community of neurodivergent young adults ranging in age from 18-35. The wildly original scripts incorporated preexisting music. Two particularly successful presentations were the cleverly named "Greece!", which was a creative retelling of the Medusa myth, and "The Legacy of the Blue Wizard", which explored a woman being absorbed into her own imagination.

Acting Coach
In addition to the directing and producing, David has worked in private coaching for established and emerging artists on scene work and song interpretation and performance.

Copland School of Music
The Queens College, Copland School of Music in New York City engaged David as a coach to work with the students on performance practice, stage deportment, and movement. He also created choreography for their performances of Die Fleidemaus and The Marriage of Figaro.

Cox & Box
Using two editions of F.C. Burnand and Arthur Sullivan's Cox and Box, David edited/directed a new production that delighted audiences and was made into a film for NYGASP during the 2020 pandemic.

Pirates of Penzance
David worked with director Jamibeth Margolis on musical staging of The Pirates of Penzance for Boheme opera NJ. Patriots Theatre, Trenton N.J.
